Greetings from the Board:

Our organization continues to outreach and educate commissioners, directors, staff and the public on the advantages of the “merit system.” The number one priority of our organization is to ensure the best qualified employees are selected and promoted, which in turn supports student learning.

Networking among our colleagues to learn best practices from each other and finding solutions to challenging issues can be accomplished through your participation in our luncheon meetings, mini-conferences and annual statewide conferences. Sharing knowledge and continuing to educate our members will continue to strengthen the principles of the “merit system.”

In keeping with our priority:

1. On June 2, 2017, we hosted a one-day conference at the Paradise Pier Hotel in Anaheim. This conference was enthusiastically attend by over 140 commissioners, directors and staff members. Chaired by PCASC board member Suzy Seymour, this conference provided us another opportunity to serve our members with an outstanding program that included topics meaningful to both administrators and staff.  We encouraged participation at this conference by offering free admission to staff members.

2. On October 20, 2017, we hosted a luncheon seminar at Rio Hondo Event Center, in Downey, CA. The topic was “Are Leaders Born or Made,” presented by John Glaza of MSW Glaza Consulting. This was an excellent interactive session attended by 40 PCASC members.

3. The members attending the October 20, 2017 luncheon seminar also participated in a PCASC business meeting. During the business meeting, members voted unanimously to amend our by-laws. The amended by-laws are now posted on our website. As you will note on our website and all future documents and correspondence, PCASC now has a new logo and a revised name: Personnel Commissions Association of Southern California. This new name and logo reflects PCASC’s desire to be an inclusive organization for commissioners, directors and all classified employees in our Merit Districts.

4. On June 1, 2018, we will again host a one-day conference at the Paradise Pier Hotel in Anaheim. Our newest board members, BethAnn Arko (barko@dusd.net) and Joan Stiegelmar (jstiegelmar@rowland.k12.ca.us), have volunteered to co-chair this conference. If you are interested in working on the organizing committee for this conference, please contact either BethAnn or Joan.

With continued success,
