Greetings from the Board:

A warm welcome to Personnel Commissioners, Directors, and Staff Members.

Our organization continues to outreach and educate commissioners, directors, staff and the public on the advantages of the “merit system.” The number one priority of our organization is to ensure the best qualified employees are selected and promoted, which in turn supports student learning.

Networking among our colleagues to learn best practices from each other and finding solutions to challenging issues can be accomplished through your participation in our luncheon meetings, mini-conferences and annual statewide conferences. Sharing knowledge and continuing to educate our members will continue to strengthen the principles of the “merit system.”

In keeping with our priority:

1. On June 2, 2017, we hosted a one-day conference at the Paradise Pier Hotel in Anaheim. This conference was enthusiastically attend by over 140 commissioners, directors and staff members. Chaired by PCASC board member Suzy Seymour, this conference provided us another opportunity to serve our members with an outstanding program that included topics meaningful to both administrators and staff. We encouraged participation at this conference by offering free admission to staff members. This has been a very successful practice that has been supported by all of our member districts.

2. On October 20, 2017, we will host a luncheon at the Rio Hondo Event Center in Downey, Ca. Information on the topic and cost for this luncheon will distributed soon.

3. We are very pleased to announce the addition of three new members to the PCASC Board. They are: BethAnn Arko, Director of Downey USD; Kim Papez, Coordinator Classified Human Resources of Charter Oak USD; and Joan Stiegelmar, Personnel Director of Rowland USD. Thanks to all three for volunteering their time to be members of the PCASC board.

4. On June 1, 2018, we will again host a one-day conference at the Paradise Pier Hotel in Anaheim. Our newest board members, BethAnn Arko and Joan Stiegelmar, have volunteered to co-chair this conference. If you are interested in working on the organizing committee for this conference, please contact either BethAnn or Joan.

5. The PCASC Board recently agreed to adopt a new logo for our organization. You will notice it on our website, and all of our future correspondence. Thanks to Nora Roque and her committee for developing and creating the new logo.

With continued success,
